Just soliciting some opinions. I have a 96 Z28 Convertible with M6 that I am (all of a sudden) considering replacing with a 99 SS convertible auto. I have no reason to part with the 96 as it has low miles and is great fun, except that the SS seems priced right and the LS1/SS is supposedly the big dog in the Camaro family.
Having not driven an LS1 yet, I was just wondering if anyone had thoughts on the matter. Both cars are stock. I know the power comparisons on paper, and that the LS1 is more refined. Any other compelling reason to spend the additional 6K?

If you don't mind the A4, I'd say go for it. In the long run, the SS will be more "collectable", and is a solid notch up on the fun-factor scale.
However, for me (IMO) the A4 and "lesser" styling looks of the '99 would hold me back. I was in a similar dilemma when I traded my '94 6M Z28 convert for my '98 WS6 6M convert (loved the Z, perfect shape and low miles.... but couldn't resist the looks and power improvements).

Sounds like you've made up your mind already.
I'm partial to the 6 speed, and would probably spend the 6K personalizing and enhancing the '96 ... but when it comes to these cars it's passion, not reasoning, that motivates us, so do what feels right to you.

Yeah, the M6 is more "fun" in my opinion and honestly I like the look's of the 93-97 Camaro's better. I still love the 98+ Camaro but not as much. I had 2 automatic F-Body's before and gave them up for my current T/A Convertible M6. WELL WORTH THE TRADE!!! Again this is just my own opinion. Drive both and decide from there.
