I am getting pretty close to buying a wolfe 6pt roll bar. I am really buying this to stiffen up the chassis. I don't really drag race. I read a post from someone that the 6pt bar with non-swing-out sidebars really stiffened the chassis up. Can anyone comment how well a 6 point with swing out bars stiffens the chassis? Will it work just as well or will I give up a little stiffness?

Hey Gort, another guy from Folsom here...

I can tell you that my 6-point bar (not Wolfe, but that probably doesn't matter) did stiffen the car up quite a bit. If you didn't have subframe connectors, I'm sure it would *really* feel stiffer - it kind of depends what order you do the mods in, the first will feel like the best.

Also, it is quite noticeable when the door bars are out; it's not as stiff.

Keep in mind, you'll loose use of the back seats, if that matters to you.

Wow, I never noticed you are in Folsom too. Maybe I will see your car around sometime. What type of rollbar do you have? Are you happy with it?

Most of the time if you see my car, it's on the way to or from the track. I don't drive it much anymore on the street...

I had my bar built by Dave Thornhill, who's on Monier Circle off South Sunrise. He's a local chassis builder, works on drag cars, etc. Very good, but as with anything custom, it was $$$. When I had it done, I don't think there was anyone making an "off the shelf" bar for the convertibles, so I had less choice. If the Wolfe bar meets your requirements, I bet it'll be half the cost of a custom bar. Thornhill might weld it in for you.

Edit: I realized I may not have answered your original question. I don't see how a rollbar with swingouts could be less stiff than the same bar with welded side bars, assuming the swingouts are installed.
