Found a spare tonneau cover for my '00 'Vert on Ebay. Starting price was $50. I won the auction for $71 (US) [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] . With shipping and insurance the total was $140 (US). That's a steal of a deal! My local Chev Dealer wants $1000 (CND) [Eek!] for the three panels plus storage bag. That would be $600 (US). Ouch!

Do you have a part number? I'd be interested to see what the price is at GMPartsdirect.com.

Sorry, I didn't get any part numbers when I got the quote. Each panel and the bag must have their own part number as I was quoted a price for each piece. I'll give John Logan Chev a call and get the numbers. If the'll give them out over the phone that is. I read that some Dealers will not give out part numbers over the phone. I'll get back to ya ASAP.

poSSum,

Nope, sorry! The Dealer will not give out part numbers over the phone. Just curious though... anyone know why Dealers don't want to give out P/N's over the phone? [Confused]

Dealers don't want to go through the effort to find the part #'s for people shopping online at places like GMPartsDirect.com [Big Grin]

Thanks! [Smile] Yeah, I missed out on the one that Teri bought. [Frown] 'Ya snooze, ya loose' though! [Wink] Even though mine will only be a spare, for $71 (US) you can't go wrong. You never know when the original could be lost, stolen or damaged. Here's the story: The guy who sold the kit to me rented a Camaro 'Vert ( he said it was a '98 ) a few years back and took the cover with bag out of the trunk. He returned the 'Vert without the cover ( said he forgot to put it back in the trunk ). He called the rental company at a later date to ask them if he should return the cover but they said to keep it. [Big Grin]

Yes, please let me know what you find out at 'GMPartsdirect'. Thanks! My Dealer quoted: middle panel ( $500 ), side panels ( $125 ) and bag ( $250 ) plus taxes ( almost $1200 CND total ). Those figures are approximate CND $$$. I could hardly believe it when the parts guy said $500 for the middle panel alone. [Eek!] [Frown] [Eek!]

Those figures are pretty much what we found, too.

That's why we got ahold of the extra one as soon as we could. It was $150 shipped, and we're happy with it. We also got ahold of another one on eBay a few years back for $100. You got a great deal on yours!

Thanks for the info poSSum! That's quite a difference from what was quoted to me. Dealers mark-up is insane! [Eek!]

Is 'GMPartsdirect' owned by GM?

No. They cover all that in the FAQ section on their website.

I've had my car for almost a year now and I've never used the tonneau. I just like the convienence of being able to put the top up whenever I decide to.

I used to drive a '99 Sebring vert. (Chrysler) before I got my SS vert. The tonneau cover on that car was quite poorly designed. It would get deformed rather easily and threaten to fly off while on the freeway. Nevertheless, I'd put it on every chance I got because, at 70 mph and up, the folded roof would simply catch too much wind and I always felt it would wear the assembly out prematurely.

It's for this reason that I have carried the habit over. Fortunately though, Camaro roofs tuck in quite nicely, and even at speed, the fabric hardly flutters. Anyhow, if you never use it and you're willing to part with it, I think a lot of people will pay you good money for your tonneau set.
