I am in the process of changing the cam to a tr224/114. Looking foward to firing it up and seeing if I can go from a best of 13.27 to the 12's. Still staying with the f1's .
Just curios if anyone else here has put a cam of swapped heads. Normally verts are considered more of a none modding SS.

I installed a 306 cam with AFR 195 LT4 competition ported heads. I have a PCM4Less tune. I went to the track and b a r e l y broke 12's with a 12.95 at 109.97. It's a 6 speed car, I had a 2.10 60', 3750 pounds. Before the heads and cam I ran 13.27 at 104+.
I think I need a dyno tune. Posts: 27 | From: Portsmouth, Virginia | Registered: Apr 2002

I haven't yet but will likely be doing it in the future. I have heard so many great things about the TR cams but I am going to have to hear some before I make a decision. I would also consider the Z06 cam. Apparently it makes good power but it doesn't lope as much...depending on your tastes that could be a good or bad thing. I want mine to lope a little. Gary: time for some drag tires. I think you reach a point that extra HP does not mean better times if on street tires. I managed a best of 13.20 on my street tires and 12.30 on ET's (of course I only went once and SHOULD have been in the mid 11's with ET's) I had about 490 rwhp at the time.

I just finished cam/heads/gears/convertor. Car feels VERY strong, zero traction, slowly lay into the throttle and the tires (275/40/17) go away at 4400 Haven't made a full second gear run, but what I have done feels great. Ordering drag radials next week, if I can hook this thing, it well be a low 12. Posts: 1 | From: Orygun | Registered: Dec 2002

I did make that run on Nitto's....brand new ones though. I didn't hook very with my 245's when they were new so I sort of expected the same with the 275's.
I'll get a dyno tune and see what kind of power I'm putting down. I'll never ET as most do with similar setups, I launch light to preserve my 10 bolt. If and when it goes, I'll give her hell after that. Posts: 27 | From: Portsmouth, Virginia | Registered: Apr 2002

Haha , my Trans Am was suppose to be the driver . Well ....that idea has gone all to hell for 2003 . Last year I ran cc306 and HEAVILY worked MTI stg 3 LT4 heads , manual VB 700r4 with a 3200 vig and 3.73 gears . Never got the car tuned before bad weather came and I know now the tranny and converter are not right for this cam AT ALL ...not even close . Soooooo , this year the car gets TH350 w/ brake , 4500-5000 stall , spooled 9" rear with 4.10's , Weld prostars full time on the car now , lots of weight reduction .
"If" I can get the weight in the 3400 area without me in it , Im lookin for very high 10's N/A by mid summer with a stock shortblock .
