Author Topic: Anyone change a top themselves? 98TripleWhiteWS6Vert 1st Gear Member # 1095 posted                       My triple white vert needs a top. They want $900 installed. I think I can get the top for $500. Anyone here tried doing it themselves? I would end up messing it up and spend that $500 twice, ending up with a job that costs more than if I'd had a pro do it for $900. You might want to get a Helm Manual and see what it entails. I found a place here that does the white vinyl tops for $550 installed and the cloth for $700. The tops themselves can be had for $200 or so if you reuse your back glass. It explains how someone could still make money doing a vinyl top for $500... I installed one before, on an older car and it was a pain, everyone said to start from the rear and work your way forward. It took some time, but it came out pretty good, It would have been easier had I had some help. If you got patience go for it, These cars look easier than the one I did. I would never pay someone, if I could do it myself. Most manuals say professional insalation is reccomended, cam installs, seat reaposltry, hell my dad just put up some posts for the steps, and it said a real experienced professional should be the only one to attempt this. First time for my dad, and it looks awesome. Just make sure everything is lined up and straight before you bolt it down. If anyone needs a complete assembly I have one that came up of a '99 or '00 car. It is a complete black convertible top assembly with hydraulics for $800.
