I was thinking of cutting a hole in my stock muffler and see what makes it tick and possibly drilling some holes in between the baffles and allowing it to breathe easier then rewelding it up and see what it sounds like what do you think comments welcome especially if you've tried it my ride 2001 SS conv.auto/peweter

Yea, instead of answering a question that hasn't been asked, put a Dual/Dual on your car. While the stock muffler meets GM's requirements you can bet it's probably somewhat restrictive compared to what's available on the aftermarket.

I opened it up the way I looked at it if I replace it the old muffler just sits aside collecting dust and taking space till u get rid of it rihht so I opened it up not much to it there's three main tubes all free flowing thru the centre's and tiny slots along the length of it what I did is I opened up the slits the full length of the muffler three slots a 1/4 inch wide down the full length of the muffler on each tube probably releiving abou 50 % of the back pressure this is a guess just from the sound probably would have added one more cut down each tube but it's done now rewelded it and installed sounds good cost $0.00 done all the work myself if you have the knowledge and tools why buy everybody elses stuff don't be afraid to experiment .
