Okay time has been coming to replace the factory comp t/a's on the SS after 25,000. So I guess i could use the latest opinions from the group on what tires to buy. I've always been one for keeping the original type tires just for show purposes, but when it comes to 150 to 200 bucks a pop, well heck even i have my standards. Any thoughts?

I've been very pleased with the Nitto NT-555 series tires. Very suprised at the wet traction i get with them. Also like the clean appearance of the rim guard design, they are designed so you rub the side wall instead of the wheel lip if you bump a curb (which I hope never will happen) Discount Direct / Discount Tire is the big dealer for them.

I went into Costco the other day and priced BFG g-force KD's and the price I got quoted w/ the road hazard warranty was $1100.00 out the door, this includes free rotation and balancing.

I paid 712$ out the door at price club/cosco for a set of 4 bridgestone potenzas re-730 and they grip well wet or dry and have a treadwear rating of 300.

I was looking seriously into those RE730's as well. I'd like to get the G-force, but money is just too tight right now. Do they grip better off the line than the F1's? I checked out all of the info about them that TireRack.com had to offer and the seem to do pretty well. They look like they've got a good tread pattern & they've also got the rim protecting "lip". I wouldn't buy another set of tires without it. Someone had posted a while back some pics of a red SS with red painted calipers that was a good close-up shot and he had these tires. If you're in here, could you post it again? Thanks,

When I replace the GoodYear Eagle F1's on my SS (what year did the SS's stop getting these from the factory?) I will definitely go with the Firestone Firehawks. Two reasons: price, and that lip that runs around the edge of the rim. If I had had those, I wouldn't have chewed up the edges of two rims when I caught a curb two years ago.

I put some Yokohamamommadotheystick A-520's on at 35,000. I paid $156.00 each/net.
They are smoother than the "run flat" F1's, have a better bite and are great in the rain and I'm sure they gave me around 20 more horses. I wish I could get a decal for my side window.
They'll probably wear out faster but I'll be in my 02 by then.

Betty Bonderant, Bob's wife has a unique method on how NOT to turn your steering wheel before you completely exit the space. It worked for me

the RE-730's grip a lot better than the f-1's. when the f-1's had about 1/4 tread left I could floor it and they would spin now the the potenzas I can launch hard and they still stick as long as they are warm.

Does anyone have opinions on the cornering ability for the tires out there. I really dont go to the track too much but im interested in setting up my car for some auto crossing next summer. Thoughts?

if yu go with the bf goodrich kdw's which is a too directional tire you can get them from tire direct for 209.00, that is a great deal, don't put off buying tires till next year cause the word is that all tires, yes all companies will raise prices 7% to insure they have enough money incase they get sued for tire failure.

I have Dunlop SP8000's on the SS. I'd rank them up there (well real close anyways) with the Firehawks for traction on wet or dry pavement. They are, however running 150 bones each
Why are the Firestone Firehawlks so expensive? You'd think they'd nake it cheaper given the recent controversy!

I have the BFG KD's they are by far the best all around "Track and Street" tire. They stick as good as most slicks. I can barley spin my tires! Anyone in here have them besides me?

They grip a lot better off the line. I used to be able to floor it in 1st gear and roast the tires, now tthey don't even lose grip when I nail it. I think they have got to be the best all around tire. Although I only have experience with the F1's and these RE-730's.

The KD's were on #31 when I got it from Mike. I love them because they really stick and run well in the rain too, as long as it's not a Monsoon...and I don't mean the Stereo!! I've got a friend in Toronto, Dave Stokes, who swears by them...he uses them for solo racing and they run great. He tells me the wear number is around 200, so they wear a little more than the Eagles, but for the money, still the best, I think. I say that not having tried the Supercar's yet.

Well, I got the RE 730's and love them. They grip a lot better than any tire I've ever had including the Firehawk SZ50's on another car. Plus, they really look great on. Best bang for the buck tire avalible IMHO.

I'd go with BFG KDs or Michelin Pilot Sports. I understand that the Nittos are fine also and are a bargain. Want more traction? Put a set of Nitto drag radials on the rear. They'll make a HUGE difference.
