I RECENTLY PURCHASE A 2002 CAMARO SS AND I OWN A 94 VETTE AND A 91 CAMARO RS AND I THINK BY FAR THIS IS THE BEST CAMARO EVER. I WILL BE SAD TO SEE IT GO THIS YEAR. I AM LOOKING TO MAKE MINOR MODIFICATIONS TO MY CAR TO MAKE IT FASTER AND LOOK LIKE A SLEEPER. I AM CURRENTLY INTERESTED IN THE SLP LOUDMOUTH EXHAUST AND LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK ON THE SYSTEM...SOUND AND HORSEPOWER BENEFITS TO THE CAR. THIS IS A WHOLE NEW ENGINE TO ME SO BEAR WITH ME IF I DONT UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING ABOUT THE LS1 MOTOR. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Several of our members have the Loudmouth Exhaust. I'm sure they'll be able to give you some feedback on it.
p.s. You might want to take off that ALL CAPS key. (It means you're yelling.)
Welcome to the board.
I have the SLP LM on my '01 SS and I really like it. It definitely has the presence that will turn heads as you drive down the street. For normal driving, it's a little on the "loud" side, as the name implies, but not too bad. You can pretty much control the volume with your right foot. I've heard that the A4 cars experience some resonance in the 1800-2000 rpm range, but since I have an M6, I don't have this problem. The system absolutely wails when you're wide open. It sounds awesome. If you check out past threads in this forum or over at SLP, there have been a few posts of LM soundclips.
The system is several hundred dollars cheaper than other stainless cat-backs, but the others all have mufflers or other features. The LM has a tuned resonator rather than a muffler. Another system that you might consider is the Borla. It doesn't sound quite as mean as the LM on an LS-1, but it is tuneable, so if you get sick of the noise, you can quiet it down without compromising performance. I had a Borla on my '99 A4 Z28 and I really liked it. When I went shopping for a system for my SS, I had by then heard so many favorable comments about the sound of the LM that I decided I would at least listen to it before I made my purchase. The rest is history. I'm sure you could hook up with an SS owner in your area who has an LM if you'd like to hear one in person. For most people, that's all it takes to make the decision final.
You'll find that the LS-1 responds amazingly well to back induction and exhaust mods. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it. Congrats and once again, welcome.
Good luck,
Andy
Er.....That was supposed to read "basic induction and exhaust mods."
Oops....

I run with the Borla - no complaints. I have the medium plate in, and it's still plenty loud enough.
I must be getting old....I like how the exhaust on my 35th sounds with the stock SLP job....

No flame intended, but you want to try to make your SS a sleeper? By adding a louder exhaust?
I have the Loudmouth on my SS and I love it. I also feared the Loudmouth would be too loud especially since the car is my daily driver. I had never heard it before I purchased it but decided to take the chance. And it sounds great and really isn't all that loud to me. You can control the volume pretty well if you have the M6.
One thing this exhaust won't do is make your car sound like a sleeper. People will definitely hear it.
Many people say it will seem loud at first, then after a couple weeks you won't even notice it. I found this to be very true. If you really are wondering about it though, then I would agree with the others about going to SLP Day. You can hear many different exhausts there and see which one you like best.
Nice color choice BTW, mine is very similar.
I also have the loudmouth on my car and love it.
It sounds awesome, but it is LOUD!

i had a vette with side exhaust and i got rid of that because it was too loud and annoying when driving for long distances. the 91 camaro has flomaster exhaust which just makes it sound perfect...but this car has to be special...appearance wise i want the car to look like a sleeper....i can always just tell people i have exhaust only then kill em on the track with everything else i want done in the near future. so far everyone i have came in contact with has really helped me learn more about the ls1 motor and the new camaro ss. if anyone else has any other information that might be useful please feel free to give the information. thanks again
So now the sig makes sense!

i live in old tappan right near you, maybe you know of some others in the area that might be able to help me get some things done on the ss.
and yes my signature fits me just fine!
when i raced my vette guys at the track would come over and want to talk to my "boyfriend" about the stuff done to the car. and that would piss me off becuase some guys would automatically think that a girl didnt know anything about racing...but not this girl....i know alot about cars and i can run at the track just as good as any guy.
if anyone has some info please pass it along....this LS1 is all new to me and i want to learn
thanks again!
How cool! Welcome to the group. We have a NBM '99 SS conv (you have good taste in color choice, I see!). Love your sig line! Hope to see you around.
i am always up for a friendly little race between other fellow ss owners.
as long as its a FAIR race!
Unfortunately, I can't offer much advice about the Loudmouth since I don't own it. But Nate does and we've driven each other's cars back-to-back to make comparisons. With the mods I have and his car with only the Loudmouth, my SOTP meter came out pretty close for the two.
As for the sound...I personally think it's a little too loud and at certain RPMs, the volume isn't so bad but the resonance hurts my ears. But it does sound more intimidating
It's all about personal preference, though. Have fun making the decision and then enjoy the results.
ill be looking for him on the boards!
im too far awy from him to have a fun grudge match but getting info would be awesome!
us girls stick together!
That's more like NateSS. He loves car chicks!
If you come to the F-Body bash in Bowling Green, KY...Sept 20-22nd, you'll get to find out for yourself!

We're supposed be trying to get as many Camaros to Bowling Green as possible...not scaring them away
I just noticed you already have SLP exhaust listed in you sig...is it dual/dual or center-mount?
[ 28 February 2002: Message edited by: OBSSD ]
well if all goes well i will see you all there at bowling green!
i'll try to give nate a run for his money!
[edit] - Wait a minute...magnesium rims Those were an option on the 'Vette a couple years back but they're not available on the Camaro

the slp exhaust i have isnt a head turner though!
i was also thinking about just welding a dump on the exhaust and run it that way but im afriad i will loose power off of it. we will see i have plenty of time b4 bowling green to get stuff done
i love the attention it gets when you roll past someone and then romp on it and it scares the begeezus out of them! lmao

yeah, they are always getting me in trouble. i'm glad you're ok with it. well, i would not call it obsessive, but darn close
LM, good choice. you will definately get noticed with that exhaust. but i'm sure you get noticed now as it is. just be sure to not get noticed by a certain group of individuals (cops).
i work the one in paramus on 17
i have been there for 3 years. is that where u bought yours?
natess....i get my fair share of getting noticed you can see what i look like on my profile on aol if you would like...

Cool...I pass there every day to and from work. I bought from Hawthorne 'cause the salesman at your location couldn't find a car (didn't seem interested) and Hawthorne found me one in a few hours.

Actually, I read it twice so I wouldn't miss anything but it never dawned on me the 'Vette had magnesium wheels.
Now that you've already ordered the LM, this may be too late but at least you'll know: a cutout (or dump) shouldn't rob you of any power. At the last dyno day, one of the guys had a cutout installed and his 2001 SS and picked up roughly 8 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque when he uncapped it.
I'm glad you didn't take all the joking about Nate seriously...he was afraid we were making him look bad.
