I don't work there any more - I didn't think Reggie did either. What can I say?
By the way, its ZL7, not Z17.

I really like the exhaust on that ZL7. And I can't wait to see what they have for the GTO. Posted by JeffY (Member # 120) on :

Ok, so may be a dumb question, but the "before the plug got pulled" comment got me thinking. With the restructuring, etc, at SLP, is there still any hope of these becoming a reality?

who knows. they arent out of business. they could use the SLP Canada team to develop parts.
The C5 package... might be too late with the C6 coming soon. I think that window of opportunity closed.... but I dont have any info from SLP regarding this. this is my opinion.
GTO... I think theres a better chance of seeing that. I agree with Reggie Harris' comments that GM is taking the GTO in a different direction. Lutz said they are targeting GTO at perspective Infinity/Lexus/BMW buyers. SLP could find a niche if they do a package that appeals to the GTO traditionalists. Again, this is my personal opinion, nothing has been said by SLP to me.
That being said... rumors are GM is going to do an "upscale" GTO version in '05 or '06.
I will ask Dave and/or Ed Hamburger at SLP CAD next weeekend and see what they have to say.

I thought SLP Canada declared bankruptcy, which is to say it is no longer around.
BTW, there was a C6 at the Corvette assembly plant when we toured it on Thursday. It was under a car cover and we walked by it on the opposite side of an aisle.

They did declare bankruptcy, but they are operating under a different incorporated names. Here is one of them. http://www.slppowerproducts.com
They had a business deal with a French company that went under, and that company left them with a bag full of debt. To oversimplify it, the French company screwed them. SLP Canada was essentially forced to make a business decision to declare bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy doesn't necessarily mean you stop operating. They just had to reorganize and get their creditors in order. United Airlines is a perfect example of that - not to say SLP is like UAL!

no, it was nothing like that at all.

Cant just call it "bankruptcy." That is, unless they filed chapter 7. Might have been chapter 11, reorganization of debts/assets/equities, which means they aren't out of business. But then again, I dont know what the Canadian laws are. Posted by 35th 02 ss (Member # 1667) on :
I don't know, even though the C6 is coming out it's just the coupe not the Vert. They will still be building the C5 Vert's along with the C6 coupe. So there might be a market for the vette people that want a vert but would have to wait a year until they can get one.
As far as the GTO nameplate I would love to see a new judge sitting at the stop light one day.

I've read you can't bore it to a 389 or 426. The walls are too thin. I'll dig up the article if you like.

That also requires complete resubmission of the EPA certification, makes it unavailable for sale in Califonia, unless recertified. The car then becomes usable for "off-road use only" Posted by Z28-SORR (Member # 1565) on :

Oopsie! Apparently that should be 389ci or 400ci. I just like the idea of having the original ci. to go with the GTO badge.

Did this apply to the Berger 427's.

Techincally the GMMG Phase 2 and above cars are "off road use only" Only the Phase 1's are "recertified". But you didn't hear that from me. Posted by Bill Mason (Member # 1807) on :

In order to change the bore size on an LS1/LS6 block, the old sleeves are bored out and new sleeves are installed. One place that I know of that does this is Agostino Racing Engines who has developed a proprietary process to do it. There are several of their bored, stroked (421 cu in) engines in our club members cars as well as a turbo'd 416 cu in engine.
