Here's the steps;

Click on "my profile" at the top of the page.

The "My Profile" page should be displayed.

Click on "» View/Update Profile «" on the "My Profile" page.

The "View/Update Profile" page should be displayed.

Scroll down to the "Avatar Image:" section.

Click on "Select a different Avatar Image".

The Avatar window should be displayed.

Key or copy the URL address for your avatar picture in the "Use Custom URL:" space provided. (make sure the url address is to a site where picture can be linked for display purposes)

Click on the "Set URL" button.

Click on the "Select This Avatar" button.

You should be returned to the "View/Update Profile" page.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Update Profile" button.

This should take you back to "www.chirpthird.com" page.

Your avatar should show up the next time you post. [Cool]

Ok, apparently webshots is not a site that can link images. Any ideas on a site that I can host my pic so I can have an avatar. Thanks for the info. [Big Grin]

Also be sure that it's resized - too many times do we see someone load up a HUGE pic for an avatar. I have been guilty of it myself. [Roll Eyes] [Mad]

Good point!

For reference, my avatar is a 'gif' file, 94 pixels wide X 99 pixels high.

Right click on the image & save it on your local computer drive. Then e-mail it to DanPazich for linking. Make sure the file suffix "jpg" is in lower case when you put it in your profile.

I'm sure this will help. [Big Grin]

From Webster's Dictionary;

Main Entry: av·a·tar
Pronunciation: 'a-v&-"tär
Function: noun
Etymology: Sanskrit avatAra descent, from avatarati he descends, from ava- away + tarati he crosses over -- more at UKASE, THROUGH
Date: 1784
1 : the incarnation of a Hindu deity (as Vishnu)
2 a : an incarnation in human form b : an embodiment (as of a concept or philosophy) often in a person
3 : a variant phase or version of a continuing basic entity

2.An embodiment, as of a quality or concept; an archetype: the very avatar of cunning.
3.A temporary manifestation or aspect of a continuing entity: occultism in its present avatar.

1. <chat, virtual reality> An image representing a user in a
multi-user virtual reality (or VR-like, in the case of
Palace) space.
2. (CMU, Tektronix) root, superuser. There are quite a
few Unix computers on which the name of the superuser
account is "avatar" rather than "root". This quirk was
originated by a CMU hacker who disliked the term
"superuser", and was propagated through an ex-CMU hacker at
