Man, XBCHBUM from the F-Body Hideout turned me onto this forum and I'm loving it!

Everyone knows that verts are the heaviest cars out there and I just wanted to get a feel for what we are all running at the track. We have a big disadvantage due to our weight, but there are a few of us out there that tend to show that verts aren't as slow as many may think....like George Baxter. Low 9 seconds.....what the hell is that all about?

So, lets see em....what's your best 1/4 mile and MPH?

My best weighing in at 4,300 lbs NA was:

12.782 @ 103.91

But this will soon change once I get back out on the track since I've lightened the load significantly and installed the 150HP N2O.

My understanding is that the 4th gen convertibles weigh about 85lbs more than the coupes. So that would make us somewhere around a tenth or less slower ar the track. Not much.

Yikes - 4300 lbs??? Waddya got in there? Mine's 3700 lbs, with roll bar, nitrous bottle, and most of the stock interior, etc (without me in it). Interesting time you've got, by the way. Killer ET for your MPH.

My numbers are in the sig.

Dave, actually....I went off of what GM Customer Support had told me. I called them about a week ago just to find out how much our cars weighed right off of the show room floor. She had to call archives to dig into the 1997 Z28 ragtops. She said that the Gross Vehicle Weight of our cars was weighed in at 4,358 lbs. That is the official weight with all fluids topped off and with two occupants of average weight. 4,358 lbs. So, I figured that with all that I have on the car....I'm somewhere around 4,300. I will get my Z weighed in the next time at the track. That's an ugly weight....

I weighed mine at SLP day in NJ. I was about 3750 lbs with me in it (but not much gas). Anyway, my best time so far has been 13.49@105.67mph. The is with chamberred exhaust, whisper lid, maf ends and throttle body. We'll see how I do with the new gears next time.

Posted by LeonardS (Member # 588) on :

My best time was 13.972 @ 99.xx mph. The car was totally stock and had 350 miles on it. I believe it weighed 3675 lbs.

Gonzo,

There is 0% zippy chance that your car weighs anywhere NEAR what you are thinking man, 4300 pounds? Who told you that joke?

My '94 convertible Trans-Am weighs precisely 3590 lbs empty (as measured by digital scales at Memphis Motorsports Park) and 3775 with me in it. I weigh 185 pounds so it's accurate, go figure.

Get your hoopdy on the scales next time you're at the track dude, seriously. I think you'll find that your E.T.'s are not down because of the weight, more likely because of the cam you selected.

Don't worry though it will wake up on the kit! DTB SCRD to spray the heck out of it dude!

See my earlier post on where I got that figure. I got it from GM's Customer Service....they called the Archives to get the data for me, but true, I won't know for sure until I get it on the scales. I should be able to hit MIR next Saturday.

FYI, Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) is the total maximum weight acceptable for the vehicle. It makes more sense in a truck, where you want to know the total weight of the truck, the people in it, the payload in the bed, etc. So in your car, it's just a figure that says how much crap you can put in it, and isn't really helpful for telling what the actual car weighs.

You'll probably need to get with Jason Miller in advance to setup use of the scales at MIR, they are normally turned off for Midnight Madness and TnT events. Email him directly in advance or just goto the local dump and run your car up on the scales there, it's free and accurate within 5 pounds. The only hazzard of the dump is the possibility of picking up a nail in a tire though.

Maybe I will see you at the track.

Glad you made it over Gonzo! I heard on the SLP board to determine curb weight take the GVW from the door sticker and subtract 750 lbs. GM allows 150 lbs each for four passengers and cargo. This will give the curb weight of the car with all fluids. Each car will vary depending on options.

My basic mods list is SLP LTs w/o cats, 3.5" collector mod into 3.5" intermediate pipe and a 3.5" cutout, MTI lid & K&N, FRA, HPP3 non-rfg tuning, 160F thermo, MAFT for NA tuning.

My current best with a 1.95 sixty is 12.87 @ 111.92. With that MPH I should be in the 12.5s but I need to go on a diet (the car) and work on my launch.

Working on a dry NOS setup so that should put me in the mid 11s at near 120-122mph! Also looking to do a cam swap and an LS6 intake in the near future.

I may be slow but I look good !

14.476 @ 101.93 .750 reaction 2.4 60'

The only two passes I have ever made in the car were when it was bone stock, and I had the pleasure of making those two passes at the "Teflon track testing grounds" known as Carlsbad. My 60' was 2.4 LOL, of course, on the stock F1's.

I have Nitto's on the back now and have done quite a few mods (recently dyno'd at 301 RWHP/314 RWTQ). Keep in mind these are A4 numbers so that puts me at about 360hp at the crank.

I need to go back out and cut a low 13 second run, my sig is getting embarrasing !

Peace,
BadAss30th

I posted in another thread that I raced last weekend at Maple Grove. I weighed the car twice. My 98 vert RA weighs approx 3600 lbs, not 4200. The 60 ft was 2.010 to 2.040 all day. Most of the runs were 13.7, but I did get a best of 13.66 @ 101. The only mods are TBCB, 2nd rain baffle, Bump stop, FRA, and no air filter. Now I need to think about a roll cage, but I need to have a baby seat in the car and I just don't like the look. Still deciding what to do... I may just dial 14.0's and sand bag it. My thinking is, GM shouldn't sell a car that fast if it isn't safe, so why does NHRA require 13.99 or fast to have a cage? Hard tops are 11.99. My car is 4" off the ground with 275 40's, how the hell am I going to flip it? Sorry for the rant...

I just got a G-tech [no drag strips close to where I live] and only ran once because its very hot [90] right now. I had some wheel spin out of 1st. and a little in 2nd. and 3rd. and the G-tech said 13.97 at 106.7 mph. My 99SS conv. has a K&N filter and the loud mouth exhaust. I don't like to jump on it too much because I always smell the clutch if I really get into it off the line and I can't afford that expense right now. I'm sure I should run faster if I get the right traction off the line. I just had the car dyno'd at 312.6 hp and 321.8 torque at 122.97 mph and 12.7 air fuel ratio.

Get drag radials!

Hey, you're the one making all the big dinero at AOL....so come on, fork over a tad bit and get those drag radials! I would say get the ET Streets, but you have a manual and you'll probably lose the rear if you went with them. However, I do know some guys that run with manuals and a T/A Girdle on their stock rear ends with ET Streets and their rears are holding up....

I'm curious to see what you can do with the LS1 with good traction.

Yup, I'm working on scoring a set of drag radials now. I'm also working on getting a rollbar too. Not sure that I can afford both yet since I want to put the drag radials on different wheels so I don't have to drive with them all of the time. I think I'm gonna get some of those BFG DRs when I do. With the speed I'm getting, I'm hoping that I can get a significantly better time with some traction and my 4.10 gears.

Big AOL dinero, eh? You haven't looked at the stock price lately.

Went to the Rock on Sunday, I didn't hear an official count but we had about
30 Fbodies there I believe. This included the third gen club that Ryanne
was with.

60 1/8ET MPH 1/4ET MPH
NA 2.134 8.484 88.86 12.868 112.60
NA 2.141 8.421 89.30 12.808 112.25
NA 2.056 8.349 89.42 12.700 113.45
NA 2.220 8.399 89.70 12.774 112.16
NA 2.263 8.522 88.10 13.141 97.66
NA 2.171 8.538 88.14 12.961 111.69
NA 2.211 8.509 89.08 12.883 112.91
NOS 2.174 8.446 92.98 12.651 118.71
NA 2.197 8.506 89.44 12.884 112.43
NOS 2.110 8.241 94.05 12.399 119.67
NOS 2.081 8.066 95.01 12.199 120.27
NOS 2.368 8.543 92.78 12.732 119.10
NOS 2.203 8.208 94.33 12.345 120.26

NA goal was 8.0-8.1 @ 90mph and 12.5-12.6 @ 115-116mph, I believe I am a
good 1.8 60 foot away from these results.
NOS goal was 7.6-7.7 @ 96mph and 11.8s @ 123mph, again putting down the
power on the bottom half of the track is the limitation at this point.

I need traction mods! Some consistent 1.7s would put me within reach of the
NA/NOS goals. I am very pleased with these results given the limitation of
the Nitto DRs that I am running. Plus I am not really heating them up
fully. These runs backed up some of my results from Greer however though
the MPH was better than at Greer. NA I believe there is more there due to
the shift RPM that I am limited to currently (6400-6500 with 6600 limiter).
I could not manage better than 2.0 60s, plus when I was spraying the hit of
the NOS on the tires just past the 60 mark meant that I was in and out of it
to try to maintain traction. I need some ETs or M&Hs on some 16s I guess, I
don't have the funds for a 12bolt/9inch at this point though. I am leery of
running stickies on the stock 10 bolt, though I know many that have done it
for a time. Need to do some traction mods and some other things before the
November event at the Rock!

OK, here's a good base line for you guys.
97 SS convertible, stock, stock, stock. Got that??
Weight, 3621/w full tank. 3816/w me, you figure it out. 52,000+ miles.
92 degrees, 87% humidity, sea level.
Best ET:14.73, Speed:96.41, 60':2.1-2.2's
Dyno'ed: RWHP 250@4700rpm, torque 290@3000-4100rpm.
This was on Kumho ECSTRA Supra 712's, 245/50-16's at 22psi.
Only SS performance option was the CAT back exhaust.
So if you knock off a couple of tenths for bad driving you should be pretty close to what a stock LT1 does.

My best is 13.6@103mph on SLP Customer Appreciation Day at National Trails Raceway in Ohio. All done in 95+ degree weather with very oppressive humidity with mods listed in sig. I'm going to the track this Thursday, so I sure hope the cold air will make a big difference. [Big Grin]

I ran 13.7's that day. On a prepped track with decent weather and possibly DR's, you'll be in the 12's.

One can only speculate.....

I wish i had made it to the track with my turbo setup prior to selling it. 550+/- hp and 600+/- tq... Would have been fun.
I'm just waiting now for the NEXT BIG THING to come along but until then i'll likely hit the sauce and see what it will do.
Later,
Dr. STEW

By the way, I think i had enough for 10's??? who knows? Its all in bench race heaven now

Been a while since I've been back in here...and reviewing the times on this thread it appears that we have some pretty descent running stock F-Bods in here. [Wink]

Way to represent the verts!! [Big Grin]

2 weeks ago I got a personal best 1/4 time with my 2002 Brickyard 400 SS. It is a bone stock automatic with no optional SLP performance options. I ran a 13.42 @ 104 with a 2.07 60' time at a junk track near my house,Milan Dragway. I was pleased being a vert! [Cool] [Smile] [Big Grin] [Wink]

Here's how I did on my first time ever going down the 1320.

R/T: .765
60': 2.344
330: 6.081
1/8 : N/A
1000: 11.612
1/4: 13.75
MPH: 105.42

A little disappointed with the 13.75 time. But hey, it was my first attempt.

I have a 96 Z28 vert. with a 383 stroker and Procharger blower. My best run was with a BEAT clutch 11.56 @ 123.30 at Cecil County in Maryland. I have not been able to get it running right since I put a Spec Stage 3 clutch, DD subframe connectors, boxed lowers, airbags, skinnies, and custom front mount install. Hoping to go hi tens with this combo, then spray it. Then again, I am in school, and broke now! Unfortunately I have even had 2 consider selling it.

Is the clutch part of the problem or just a point of reference?

Alright...well it's about time I update this thread for myself here....

Official weigh-in: 3,917lbs. with driver.

The bests for me now are:

N20 - 11.3 @ 124.8mph (Nov 10, 2001)

Hey Gonzo I like that color combo on your car. I think my medium patriot red is a little darker. I haven't seen two side by side yet.

needless to say I haven't seen many of our color combo cars out there

Everyone knows that verts are the heaviest cars out there and I just wanted to get a feel for what we are all running at the track. We have a big disadvantage due to our weight, but there are a few of us out there that tend to show that verts aren't as slow as many may think....like George Baxter. [Eek!] Low 9 seconds.....what the hell is that all about? [Big Grin]

So, lets see em....what's your best 1/4 mile and MPH?

My best weighing in at 4,300 lbs NA was:

12.782 @ 103.91

But this will soon change once I get back out on the track since I've lightened the load significantly and installed the 150HP N2O. [Wink]

Whats up Gonzo, I just joined the board also, I have not got to the track yet, just got the car on my B-day last year. Can't wait to get to MIR this spring. [Smile] I keep the vert in the garage, and drive the coupe in the winter...

Hey there...right on. [Wink] Yea, there's nothing like dropping the top and cruising to the track...bring the top up, tech in, and throwing down some low 11s. [Big Grin] Ah, you should come out to MIR with us for our annual Modern F-Body Shootout that will be held on the 19th of April. Click here for more details on it: http://www.f-bodyhideout.com/events/mf-bs03/

This season will be a big change for my slug though. Got the motor in a lot of pieces as I'm going through a new build. 11.3 at 124.8 wasn't enough. I'm determined to go 9s in a couple of years and I'm focused on this goal. This season though my goal is to come out on mid to low 10s.

Yea, it's been very hard for me to find other Ceyenne Red Camaros. I've only run across 3 since my purchase back in 97. I do like the Patriot Red as well...nice color. [Wink]

My best time on drag radials.

ET: 14.382
MPH: 101.21
60': 1.89
RT: .783

Not bad for a V-6... [Big Grin]

I got a Vector/Powerdyne unit for Christmas. I'm waiting to get off my lazy butt and get some forged internals and stiffer valve springs before I install it. I'm hoping to get into the low-mid 13's afterwards....

New time: 11.9@117(7.8 1/8 mile)and 12.0@119 at around 80deg. I should be down a half a sec or so when I learn to do a decent burn out(they wouldn't let me run w/o a rollbar after the 11.9)and replace my sliping tranny :-)

I'm surprised that any NHRA or IHRA track allowed you to run deeper than 13.9 without a rollbar. [Wink]

You might as well invest in a "firejacket" as well.

Yea, those damn 2.73:1 gears really need to get yanked out of there and set yourself up with either 3.73:1 (auto) or 4.10:1 (manual). Don't be skuuuur'd. [Big Grin]

Come on down to Atlanta drag way. Everybody i know knocks off a few tenths at any other track they run though. I run 12.5s all night long in the heat on motor but could only get a 11.9 on a 150 shot.ha ha. I think i will see atleast 1 mid to low 11 run next time i go. Alan

Gonzo you are so right about the rollbar as I do not get to run my vert much because of that only way I get in a run is at a track they don't know the car. best run got in so far before made to leave the track was
RT .74 60ft 1.74 1/8th 8.1-88.9mph 1/4 11.64-126 mph and yes I am seeing some nice times for our verts [Big Grin]

Nice run but that's one odd looking timeslip. We run similar 1/8 times but after that you pick up some crazy mph. How much juice you putting to that car and when are you spraying it?

The 1/8 was off the motor and I spray in third mostly with a 125 shot. I am running most bolt on and all the free mods and a LPE custom grind cam and heads [Wink]
