I contemplate that once in awhile, selling my SS and buying another sports car.
Well, I drive a lil 4x4 Toyota Tacoma (all of 150hp) back and forth to work everyday, and I haven't driven my SS since September (I think, its been a long time) don't ask me why, I don't have a clue, but anyway, today is nice and warm and I thought I would go blow some carbon out.
I start the car up and it rumbles to life. As I sit there behind the wheel listening to the idle (I had forgotten how good this thing sounds.) I blip the throttle. Oh yeah, this thing sounds REAL good and a rush of wonderful memories instantly come back to me. (the time KenC, HerHawk and I whooped up on that 81 Vette on I95, the time I took the wrong turn and missed the NJ Turnpike sign and saved the convoy about 25 cents in tolls; Chabs rendition is different but this is my story!, my first ever SLP event, driving around meeting new 4th Gen owners one of which was the best man in my wedding etc.... )
On with the story...
I pull out of the my parking spot and ride the brakes a little (need to clean off that surface rust) Then hit the brakes, oops, forgot I did that C5 Brake Conversion, cold tires slide when you hit these brakes! No biggie, it was only about a half foot. Never the less I go out and run up and down the highway and bring it home. And as I was driving I can't get that phrase that The Fbodfather has said to me so many times. The Camaro was built for the enthusiast, Big power, great performance at an affordable price. And today I realized again just how much fun it is to own this car. Though this badge is no longer being produced, I still have faith that something will come along and fill that void.
Take care friends. Have a great weekend. And thanks for reading.
Doug

YEah, I love my SS, although if I get what I ask for it, I will sell it. It's definitely a mixture of emotions with me and the SS. I'm busy at work so maybe later I will indulge in the details.

AS you know, for some reason that I can't explain, I am very attached to this particular car and unless something goes terribly wrong in my life, I have no intentions of selling it.
Now, the Z06 on the other hand would go in a minute if the prices were right, no matter the brand. I like it, but I own it for the performance vs the dollar only. I have no emotional attachment to it.

you know if Grace wants to keep her truck in the garage for the winter, your Z06 will fit in mine no problem.
roads down here are much wider too, so no potential of any pole shear damage either.

to answer Doug's question... yeah, I've thought about it.
Since the kids came along, I hardly ever get to drive her. Shoot, since BG '02, I've put less than 4k miles on her.
She's all paid off, so whatever I get I can put into my pocket but... I look at the resale values and realize... this car is worth much more to me than I could get for it.
I find a dose of what you did Doug always seems to make me realize that too.

I doubt the SS will ever get sold ...even if I do get another car for the performance aspect.
What the car is, the way I learned about it (SLP message board), the friends made at the events since (started by the first SLP Engineering Customer Appreciation event) .... simply a life experience that cannot be duplicated.
Perhaps a better car will come along ...though I doubt the "bang for the buck" will ever be matched and platform sharing and safety standards will generate a "neutering " effect ...but it's unlikely that we wil ever see another community come together like the 4th gen F-body one did.

No, I don't even think about selling the SS. It's too much of a fun car! I tend to hang on to my cars, usually untill the end (but not always). I still drive the 1983 Volvo that I got on 12-82. I still have my 1968 Ford pick-up I got in 1977, and I still have the '69 Camaro project.

I say NO, but I said the same thing about the 99 HOSS and the 96 CE LT4 Vette I had. I think the difference is though, I love the unqiness of this car. Now, when everything gets back to normal again and there are 2 incomes coing into the house, there will be another car for me. Either a noce collect that won't be touch and the 97 30th SS will be played with or a project car. Either way the SS is staying in the family.

Thanks, your a pal!! HA ha.
Actually, Grace's truck is in the garage. The SS is sqeezed into the original garage and Grace's truck and the Z06 are in the new garage. AND, the pole is gone, so no mirror delete worries!

Yeah, I contemplate it, and then answer myself with two words. "Hell, no".
I like having a car that doesnt break down. I like having a car that uses inexpensive, standard parts. I like having a car that is easy to work on. I like having the best looking car in America.

No, never as crossed my mind. I'm attached to much to any of the cars. I fell bad when I don't get a chance to start them, or if I take one out and the others are left behind.
That don't sound to crazy does it??

I sold my mint 86 Z28 in 2000 knowing one day I would pick up this car I currently have. As long as I can afford her, she is staying put. No more cars. This is my keeper.

I have those same thoughts as well ... while I don't really have any specific attachement to my SS, I've owned and driven a Camaro since I've had my license.
What usually snaps me back to reality is my three year old daughter riding along with me (in the back seat, of course) and saying "Camaro has t-tops!" I can't imagine not having this car when she's a bit older and can better appreciate it.

I not only never think of selling the car, since it took a lot of effort just to get them to build it right in the first place, but I've actually been hoarding some parts back from GM while they're still available for the EVENTUAL restoration many years from now. A lot of people don't give that much thought right now with a 2002 model, but I'm here to tell you, it'll be MUCH cheaper to get some of the harder to find trim parts now than pay 10-20 times the original price for it later. That $4 "35th" plastic plaque on the dash today may go for 30 bucks later easily at a swap meet when you can't get them anymore, trust me on this.

I made the mistake of selling my 1st SS which was the same thing as what I have now except that one had the chrome 5 spoke wheels. I love this car and now that I paid it off last month, I have no reason to even think about selling it.

All the time. Just haven't found a car I like better right now. I'm used to having mid 80's Monte Carlo's. Big honking V-8's (After motor swaps), A trunk, etc. A LS6 powered GTO would have it in for the SS.

In my past I had a 70 SS 396 Chevelle, a 69 Z/28, 79 RS, 67 Chevelle 327 with SS equip, 65 Malibu 283, 65 Impala Convt., 70 GTO 400 Ram air IV Convt, plus more sold them all what a bad move by me today they would be worth serious $$. My 2002 SS it is the last of a breed and would I sell it? Everything is for sale at the right price! I enjoy this car the offer would have to be huge, since that will not happen for many years I continue to enjoy and drive this awesome car (On dry days only). It is almost paid for, and the smiles it produces everytime I drive it make it worth keeping!

I've thought about selling the Hawk several times... but the fact that I have so much money tied up into it with the new motor I would never do it. Plus, once I get a few small bugs worked out, a TA rear spoiler and a paint job, I'll have a "brand new" '94 Firehawk with about 33K miles on it that performs better than any car I've ever owned.

Nope - while never is a long time, I have way too many memories to consider selling right now.
Besides, my youngest son Ben, called it when I die! The first day I brought it home he said "I get it when he dies!"
I still get that "feeling" when I turn the key and the LS1 roars to life. I love watching the faces of the Euro Racers (BMW) when they think their M5's will dust me off - no way!
I just have'nt found a better bang for the buck - yet!

In regards to my 01 SS... I'd sell mine if the price was right, but other than that and despite all its shortcomings I love it. I am fortunate enough to live in San Diego where I get to drive mine ALL year round.
Couple years from now I'll let it go when it really starts to fall apart. I've gotten rid of all my other Camaros, this one is no different.
The only one I'll never sell is my 68. My wife is gonna have to bury me in that one.

I waited 25 years to buy muscle/pony car, from the time I sold my '71 Camaro in 1974 until '99 when I bought my SS. I wanted a hobby car, but I didn't have the time I thought I would have to restore or maintain an earlier generation. I chose the SS 'cause it had the most horsepower/dollar at the time, the looks were awesome, and the LS1 - well its just got to be the best V8 I've ever owned. A bonus was making many new friends and acquaintances in the F-body family.
Would I sell it? Probably yes, but only when I can't get in or out of it anymore.

You should sell then both and get a BMW. Then you can have a perfect car with no shortcomings!
In fact you should give me the 68 because I am a GM lover. You shouldn't have either one.

My 02SS was delivered on Nov.11th of 01. I had been wanting another Camaro since 98 when Chevy started installing the LS1's in them(this is my 5th,at least 1 of each gen.)So many things were going on in my life between 98-02 I could'nt see a new car purchase as a prudent thing to do. But when they anounced the desision to end production with the 02 model year, I new I had to have one. I had a daily driver and said I wouldn't put a lot of miles on it, but DAMN I love driving this car!!! I have 19K on it in a little over 2 years, and it has been perfect since day 1. Solid. I have a 10 year old son that I hope will grow up to appriciate this car and its history and be able to pass it on to him

No plans here.... since I'm "young" growing up when the 4th gens came out I was just starting to drive... my folks always had Camaro's and dreamed of the day I could own one.... For me since I didn't grow up in the 60's during the true muscle car era for me the SS is the "muscle car" from my generation..... Its been a while since I driven mine but I moved it out of the garage today to get into the attic and the sounds from the LS1 was SWEET music.....
