......would you have gotten anything different?

I didn't really have that much knowledge of the SLP options and colors.

I think in hindsight I would have gotten the SOM with chrome 10 spokes and 6 speed and CME.

Not to say I'm NOT happy with "The Silver Bullet". That car will be with me for as long as I live.

If I couldn't have bought my 35th and knew about either the GMMG, Tom Henry, Berger or ZL1 then I would have purchased one of those. Other than that I would have gotten a few more SLP Options on my LE. [Big Grin] [Cool]

Yep........would have got a red one instead of black, no T-Tops, every SLP option except the Auburn, and an A4 rather than an M6. Then I would have installed 4:11's and a torque converter.

Only thing I would have done different was to find a Reputable dealer that would have told me he couldnt have gotten the 35th instead of waiting till I pulled him on the carpet.

I did mucho investigation before I ordered mine. Got all the goodies I wanted. The hardest decision was to M6 or not to M6. This was due to time making my body rust up a little. Right now I am tickled with M6, in 20 yrs from now if I am alive it could be a different story...But I would still be happy to be above ground [Smile] .

I would have gotten a Berger SS. I almost did in 2001. While at the Ontario Camaro Nationals, I had dinner with Dennis Barker from Berger Chevrolet. We talked about a Sunset Orange Metallic 2001 Berger SS convertible with a Neutral top and leather for hours. The stripes would have to been painted on instead of the decals that other Berger SS' had because that Neutral color was not available. That car would have cost me $46,000 and change and I was 99.9% convinced and ready to give a deposit on it. Dennis even gave me the very 1st Berger SS brochure...the only one the dealer had made at that time. This car would have had another exact twin that a friend of mine also bought. It would have been 1 of 2 Berger SS' with that color combo. [Smile]

I was worried that there wasn't going to be any left, so I told the dealer in Oct. to find me a SOM SS with a M6, everything else was something I could live with or without (t-tops, 12 disk changer, etc). The first two he found were sold as soon as they hit the other dealers lot. I got the 3rd one he found, with every GM option, in Dec, 2001. [Big Grin]
I didn't really have that much knowledge of the SLP options at the time. I'd probably added a few. Maybe I'll still add a few. [Smile]

I would of gotten the 10 spoke chrome wheels instead of getting them after the fact. I would of gotten the Auburn I think as well.

Other then that, keep it pretty base. I've replaced so much, glad I did not waste money on upgraded exhaust.

I was going to buy a Camaro when I bought the Trans Am. As part of my due diligence I checked out what the Firebird had to offer and found I liked it better. The Firebird had some feaures and options that were simply not available on the Camaro in 1998. There are also a couple of styling details on the Camaro that I find a little awkward that are not on or as prevalnet on the Firbird. The Firebird was $1,000 CDN more expensive before I added the options too.

The only doubt I have is if I woul have bought a Hawk instead of a Trans Am....had I known about the Hawk at the time. I had decided against the WS6 at the time. Besides neither the Hawk or WS6 could be had in Red-Orange Metallic.

Also, the money that would have been spent on the Hawk option has gone into the suspension, which has been taken a LOT further than anything from the factory.

I am happy with my decisions and still love the car 6 years and 173,000 kms later.

I am very happy with everything. I just wish i could have received delivery on the hawk a month or 6 later so I could have gotten the 0% financing vs my current 6.9% financing... [Mad]

Me too! The dealer couldn't find one while the 0% "Keep America Rolling" program was going on after the 9-11 attacks. Then it went to 0.9% and then 1.9%, which is what I ended up with.

1. I still coldnt afford the note on a V8.
2. I still coldnt afford the insurance on a V8.
3. I still wouldnt like factory centercaps.

So i think i would do it exactly the same.

If I could have done it again, I seriously think I would go back to a convertible.

T-tops are nice, but the 'vert is extra nice on those warm days. At the time, if memory serves me right it was either get the 'vert and no SLP options or get the options and no 'vert. I'm VERY happy with my car, don't get me wrong, but I miss having a 'vert.

I knew nothing when I got this one.

I was originally looking for an 02 red w/ blk vert top M6 w/ cloth seats Z28. Didn't have a clue about the LEs. I totally lucked out on her.

I am almost embarassed to admit that I told the VP I was dealing with "there are 3 things I don't like about it - the stripes, the leather seats and it's an automatic. I can fix 2 out of 3, can I drive it for a week to see if I can live with the 3rd" Needless to say, now I love the stripes, I'm dealing with the A4 and the seats have been changed.

I love my car and any changes I continue to make will likely be minor.

I got all the available options exactly the way I wanted but I also knew about a few options that were coming along that SLP couldn't put on the car. In 2000, the Bilstein setup wasn't available on convertibles and I really wanted it - I actually lobbied SLP pretty hard on it but obviously couldn't get it. It became available on the 01's. [Roll Eyes]

The other option I knew about but couldn't get was the SLP grille. I actually was waiting to order the car but just couldn't wait any longer and went ahead figuring I would get it after the fact which I did.

The other options I would have ordered would be the CME and the lid which also weren't available in 2000.

So perhaps I should have waited for an 2002 so I could have added on all the extras. But then I would have missed out on all the fun I have had with my car!!

I was so hot to trot to get into an LS1 F-body in '98, I just kept phoning dealers to see who had one in stock! I originally wanted a red one, and actually found # 150 of 150 SSs that came into Canada in '98, but when the dealer reneged on a verbally agreed upon price, I started to get desperate! Finally found the silver car I have now (fully loaded + all SLP options except chrome wheels and car cover) sitting on a dealer's lot as a demo. After 1 blast down the highway I was hopelessly addicted... I remember getting out of the car after that 1st test drive and turning around to look at it and thinking to myself...
"OK, so it's not red, but I can get used to silver... It's got the Auburn... I don't really need it... but maybe I'll take it out on the track one day... [Big Grin] "
Nope, after almost 5 1/2 years with this baby, I've finally got it exactly where I want it - and it's paid for! I'm gonna just kick back and enjoy! But Brian nailed it when he said "cloth seats". the outside bolster on my driver's seat is on its last legs and I'm actually keeping my eyes out for a set of Very Dark Grey cloth seats!

Best regardSS,

Elie
