This weekend I finished the install of my 13" C5 Corvette brakes on my SS. Install went very well, and actually was easier than I expected. Worst part was SAWING the car!
By far, probably the best bang for your buck when it comes to a brake upgrade. You could actually save a little money on a LS-1 and reuse the OEM caliper since it is the exact same size, just use new 13" rotors for a vette, the adapters, vette brake line, vette brake bracket and pads.
I splurged and bought the Baer Eradispeed 2 peice rotors for a little more appearance "Bling".

I believe that the C5 rotors are a different manufacture and are less prone to spreading than the LS1 rotors. When I did the conversion on my 98 SS, I was able to keep the stock LS1 brake lines.

Very nice! The undercarriage is very clean too! Thanks for the pictures.

The C5 caliper is pressure cast and has more structural integrity over the gravity cast Camaro caliper, I by no means do I want to imply that the LS1 Camaro caliper is as good as the Vette, just offering up an alternative that they work.
For the brake lines the Camaro ones appeared too short, never checked . . . Did you change the rotors to the 13" or keep the 12" units?
Thanks for the comments. And Greg you should know that you can eat food of the under carrage of my car!

Looks great Andy. Question...They fill your 18's very well, would my stock 10 spoke be to little for a good looking rotor/wheel combo? Also, can you mentioned where you purchased your kit?
Your going to make your vert look and perform better than your berger

There's a link with some information on this set up I'm not sure what brackets he's using?? Do you think the ZO6 or the Black C5 calipers would look better behind 35th wheels?

Yes - thank you for correcting me on the rotor -caliper wording! I used the stock C5 rotors (12.8") and the LS1 brake lines went on fine. I had purchased the C5 lines, but returned them for a refund!

I think the Corvette Caliper and larger rotor wouls look great behind any wheel, but is must be 17" or larger.
I got my brackets from Bob Bishop -from Nashville Speed, but I think that was his last batch. There is an offer in the "Wheels and Deals" forum , with a slighty different bracket but the very same principal.
Thanks again everyone, I think it'san awesome mod for the $$$$
Couldn't test drive it last night due to rain.
Will, Red be made better and faster than the Berger . . . Quite possibly

I agree, the C5 brake conversion is a very good "bang for the buck" brake mod!
A litte warning though... the C5 rotors warps just as easy as the F-Body's does I did the conversion last winter together with steel braided brake lines all around. The rotors lasted about half the summer I drive my SS hard and the C5 rotors weren't quite up for it. In hindsight, I should have let the rotors cool off properly before parking and they probably wouldn't have warper that soon. I've heard that Baer Eraidispeeds can take that kind of abuse without warping. Better ask Santa nicely and maybe he'll put a couple of them in my stocking

Here is a list of the GM parts necessary for the conversion - the number in the ( ) is the quantity you need and the 8 digit number is the GM part number.
(1) 12530682 Right front caliper (standard C5) (1) 12530683 Left front caliper (standard C5) (1) 10445856 Right front rotor (1) 10445857 Left front rotor (2) 12455799 Pad abutment bracket (2) 22163727 Front caliper brake hose (4) 12530697 Pad abutment guide pin (4) 12530703 Guide pin boot (2) 22163795 Banjo bolt (4) 10139097 Banjo bolt copper washers (this a bag of 10! - so only buy ONE bag - BTW I have spares!)
If you want the red Z06 calipers, use:
(1) 88895129 Right front caliper (Z06) (1) 88895128 Left front caliper (Z06)
Choose either brake pad set - both come with the three little metal springs for each caliper.
(1) 88909667 Durastop Ceramic front pad set (w/springs & shims) (1) 88952008 Z06 front brake pad set (w/springs & shims)

Thanks again. I have saved the post for future reference. You guys are great. You make modding much less frustrating when you know what to do and what to get.

... the Z06 brake upgrade in the 'Wheels 'n Deals' is the aluminum brackets from Bob Bishop. It's just a new outlet for him, since Nashville closed it's doors a year ago.

I didn't realise Bob was making the new brackets. Cool, EXTREMELY impressed with the quality, top notch and a great guy to do business with, kept on top of everything.

Just had to let everbody know.
Andy, you don't know where I can find pics of c5 brakes with 17" 10 spokes, do ya?
Thanks
Right now, no I do not. I'm trying to remember if Matt Murphy's Red 35th 427 C5R LE had the Z06 brakes or not . . . .
The parts list I cannot take credit for, Bob Bishop provided it.

I was also warned about the C5 rotors warping. I am using the stock Z06 pads with them (they are filthy - and now I know why GM makes the Z06 wheels the color of brake dust! ) In any event, I used this setup all season - 5 autoX events and 3 lapping events, not to mention testing them out at the dragstrip a few times where I would just keep going after hitting the finish line so that I could hit 200 kph (125 mph) and slam on the brakes! So far, so good - the rotors show no indication whatsoever of warping. I took care to "bed" the pads and rotors when new, hand-torque the lug nuts to 95 ft.lbs (instead of 100) and try to give the brakes a chance to warm up and cool down gradually whenever possible. I was also very lucky with my original stock LS1 rotors - I got 72,000 km. out of them before I upgraded and they were still working great. I believe the key is to use a very soft pad (which the Z06 pad obviously is as indicated by how "dirty" they are). My experience with the GM Durastop "Reds" was similar. Very dirty pad and there was nothing left of them after 15,000 km! At CDN$60 per set, I didn't mind! It will be interesting to see how long the Z06 pads last for me!
